Environmentally Oriented Conceptual Questions

Environmentally Oriented Conceptual Questions

Marina Milner-Bolotin, Joss Ives, Jackie Stewart

We believe that many introductory science courses are not capitalizing on the chance to increase students’ environmental awareness through the study of basic science. This project aimed to create multiple-choice questions for first year physics and chemistry that highlight these real world connections. These questions are written for use in the classroom with personal response system “clickers” but could also be used in other ways. We expect that by implementing these types of questions, we can positively influence students’ attitudes about the relevance of science. Comments and suggestions for chemistry questions should be directed to Jackie Stewart and for physics questions to Marina Milner-Bolotin.  This project was funded by the Shell Environmental Fund.
