Skylight Development Grants: 2011

The Skylight Development Fund was created by the Office of the Dean of Science in 2002 to support learning and teaching projects in the Faculty of Science. The Skylight Development Grants provide matching funds for learning and teaching projects that by their scale, scope and/or focus are unlikely to receive TLEF funding, but would provide significant benefit to undergraduate or graduate teaching and learning in the Faculty of Science. Grant applications bridging projects to the next TLEF competition are also considered.

Since May of 2002 more than $426,000 in grants has been awarded to a total of 157 projects. The spring 2012 competition will award up to $25,000 in additional grants.

The Skylight Development Grant competition has the following general characteristics:
  • A minimum of 10 grants of at most $5000 (totaling no more than $50,000 annually) will be awarded through competitions in March and late October.
  • Matching funds of equal or greater value from the home department or program must be provided to the grant holder. (Matching funds may not be in kind contributions.)

    • A budget for the requested grant and matching funds.
    • Approval of Head or Director of the home department or program.
  • Applications are evaluated by a small committee drawing members from Skylight, the Dean’s Office, and SUS.
