Tel: (604) 822-5912

Jackie received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from UBC in 2002 and a Master of Science degree in wood science in April of 2005. Her graduate research focused on the lignin chemistry and pulping characteristics of transgenic and natural poplar trees.  Before joining Skylight and the Department of Chemistry, Jackie taught interdisciplinary science workshops to first year students in the Coordinated Science Program, and she co-developed and coordinated the Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Program (MURP). Currently, Jackie is pursuing a PhD in Educational Psychology.

Jackie teaches organic chemistry for life sciences students (CHEM 233) and first year general chemistry (CHEM 121). She is involved in redesign and evaluation of these courses as well as a number of research projects in the department.

Current projects include:

- Investigation of the alignment between learning objectives, instruction, and assessment and student interpretation of learning objectives.

- Development of Flash-based organic chemistry work-examples to support development of problem solving strategies.

- Application of measurement models such as Item Response Theory to student examination responses with the goal of improving measurement accuracy of student learning.

 - Co-writing and implementing a workbook for CHEM 121.

- Implementation of Peer-Led Team Learning in the CHEM 202 tutorials.
